Today, if Mesos Tasks need network connectivity, they share the IP address and ports of the Agent. While it was OK initially, this approach pushes lots of complexity into frameworks and applications, making it hard to write simple, isolated applications that make use of the network. Fortunately, it doesn’t need to be this way: Neil Jerram will explain and demonstrate a pluggable network extension module and the first plug-in based on Project Calico (an open source project for simple, scalable & secure cloud networks). Each container gets an IP address reachable across the cluster, simplifying application design, service discovery and load balancing. Network-provided isolation simplifies deployment and improves security. DNS-based service discovery based on MesosDNS completes the picture to make each task automatically available by name over the network with no Framework changes.
